Types of Slot Machines
There are two different slot machine types that you may come across, straight and progressive slot machines.
Straight slot machines have set payout totals. The machines payout schedule will outline the exact amount of coins you will win when symbols line up. For example, if you had deposited one coin into a straight machine and three symbols line up, you will win say, 100 coins. If you played 2 coins you would have won 200 coins and 500 coins if you played 3 coins. The payout schedule would have had this information already spread out for you.
The progressive machines play out a little bit differently. The payout schedule will outline how many coins you will win when some of the symbols line up, but, the size of the jackpot is not set on these machines. The progressive slot machine is part of a network of a number of different machines, where a portion of each coin entered into every machine is added into one total, forming the jackpot. The jackpot amount is always increasing as long as nobody hits it.
The payout schedule will read progressive under the jackpot category. However it is important to remember that in order to be eligible for the jackpot, you must bet the maximum amount of coins. These jackpots are always increasing and can get very high. You do not want to hit the winning combination and only receive a few hundred coins, when the total jackpot is a few thousand coins.
An electronic board displaying the jackpots increasing total will be found above the group of progressive slot machines.
Both and straight and progressive slot machines come in many different versions. Commonly, slot machines come with three reels, but it is not out of the ordinary to find machines with four or five reels (with some video slot machines having up to ten).
Paylines also vary machine to machine. You will find machines with one, two, three and maybe even five different paylines.
Of course different machines accept different denominations of coins. In the same casino you will find machines that accept lower amounts such as, 5 cents and 25 cents and machines that accept 1 dollar bets, 2 dollars per spin or 5 dollars. Some casino’s also cater to high rollers where one spin of the reels costs 50 or 100 dollars.
Finally, some straight and progressive machines offer bonus games and spins for certain combinations and others will work two games into one . There is a lot of variety when it comes to slot machines, suiting different peoples tastes and needs.
